Questions asked at Shaykh Saleh ibn Ghanam As-Sadlaan’s (May Allah preserve him) house
25/10/1432 - 23/9/2011
Question: Do you know anything about the program called ‘Amaanah’ from a bank called Saab/HSBC?
Shaykh Saleh: No, I don’t know anything about it.
Question: Is it permissible to travel to Masjid al-Aqsa for a holiday and visit and tour its surrounding areas?
Shaykh Saleh: Yes, it is permissible, it’s Sunnah, “No journey should be undertaken to visit any mosque but three: al-Masjid al-Haraam, the Mosque of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the Mosque of al-Aqsa”.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1132) and Muslim (1397) from the Hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah
If one wants to travel the surrounding areas after visiting Masjid al-Aqsa then he can do this, but the most important thing is his intention. He must intend to go to Masjid al-Aqsa and not to go to tour or visit these other places.
Question: Are there any particular Sunan connected to Miswak, meaning the way you hold it or brush etc.?
Shaykh Saleh: The majority of the scholars say that we should hold and brush with the left hand but some said you should do it with the right hand and this is most correct Insha-Allaah.
Questioner: Is there any particular way to brush or hold it?
Shaykh Saleh: No, you can hold and brush in a manner that suits you.
Question: Is it permissible to buy something that has an image on the packaging?
Shaykh Saleh: Yes, because you are buying the product not the image. What it is better is for the seller to scratch out these images but for the buyer, he is helpless and he is allowed to buy such products.
Question: This question is connected to slaughtering; some of the scientists and doctors in the west say that they have studied the issue and they say stunning are less painful for the animal compared to slaughtering. What is your view on this?
Shaykh Saleh: Stunning the animal is not permissible, but it is permissible to slaughter the animals mechanically known as Minshaar. I saw this in America where they tie the animals up on a conveyor belt and the animals are slaughtered individually, this is permissible.
Question: Is it permissible to take knowledge from someone who calls to Tahweed al-Haakimyyah?
Shaykh Saleh: If he is speaking the truth then yes, even if a Kaafir tells you the truth you accept it. It once occurred where the Jews asked the Prophet [Peace be upon him] and asked, ‘O Muhammad! We find in the scriptures that Allaah will place the heavens on a finger, the earths on a finger, the trees on a finger, water on a finger, the ground on a finger and all mankind on a finger, and say: "I am King." What does this mean?’
The Prophet laughed and confirmed what the priest said and recited the Aayah, “They made not a just estimate of Allaah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His right Hand. Glorified be He, and High is He above all that they associate as partners with Him!" [az-Zumar 39:67]
Narrated by Al-Bukhaari [6699] and others
