Questions 2

4 Jumada Akhira 1432/Saturday 7th May 2011

Question and Answer with Shaykh Saleh ibn Muhammad al-Luhaydan [May Allaah preserve him]

Questioner: Is it permissible to touch foreign women whilst preforming Ruqyah on her?

Shaykh Saleh: No, it is only allowed to touch those who are possessed with Jinn. As for those who need to Ruqyah then they should do Ruqyah on themselves and touch the area where he/she is having difficulty, as for doing Ruqyah on someone else then he should recite over them and blow whilst blowing spittle’s of spit but not to touch them.

Questioner: Is it permissible to wear jewellery or clothes that resemble animals or have shapes of animals on them?

Shaykh Saleh: No, this is not permissible; this includes jewellery which has shapes of butterflies etc and clothes of children.

Questioner: Did the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] do Dua’a after the obligatory prayers?

Shaykh Saleh: Yes he [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] would. He [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] would do ask for forgiveness three times, he [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] would supplicate by saying ‘Oh Allah, You are As-Salaam and from You is Salaam, Glorified are You, Oh Possessor of Majesty and Honour’ and the likes that have been narrated from him [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him].

Dua’a is of two types, Dua’a of Worship and Dua’a of Requesting. The above falls under the category of Dua’a of Worship which is better in this situation as this is what the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] did.

Questioner: Is it permissible to put Ayaat of the Quraan on paper and place them in water and drink from it as a form of Ruqyah?

Shaykh Saleh: It is better to pray over the person as part of Ruqyah. As for placing paper into water and asking them to drink it then this is not affirmed nor established from the acts of the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him], he didn’t do it for himself nor any members of his family.

Questioner: A man gave another man his car to sell for 8000 Riyals but he sold it for 10000 Riyals, is it permissible for the man acting as an agent to take the profit?

Shaykh Saleh: No, because the car and the money he sold it for belongs to the owner. It occurred in the time of the Prophet where he [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] gave a Dinar to Urwa [May Allaah be Pleased with him] to buy a sheep. Urwa bought two sheep for one Dinar and one his way back to the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] he found another man who wanted to buy one of the sheep of him. So he returned to the Prophet with the Dinar and a sheep. The Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] then supplicated to Allaah that Urwa is always successful in his transactions and he was. So the agent can’t take anything of the owner’s wealth unless he gains permission from the owner[1][1].

Questioner:  If someone has prayed his prayer incorrectly for a year then he finds out about his incorrect prayer, does he need to repeat?

Shaykh Saleh: No he doesn’t need to repeat as he did his best and acted upon what he thought was correct at that time so he doesn’t need to repeat. Except if he prayed incorrectly knowingly then he should repeat and repeat the prayers that he did incorrectly close to the time he found out about his mistake.

Questioner: Is it permissible to put your gold and silver in water and pray over the water in an attempt to protect your wealth?

Shaykh Saleh: This brings no benefit and it will not be accepted, it falls under the hadith “Whoever introduces something new in this religion then it will be rejected”[2][2].

Questioner: How can we advise those who have amulets and Ayaat of the Quraan hung on the walls of their houses?

Shaykh Saleh: We can advise them by informing them that the Quraan was not revealed for this purpose, rather it was revealed for the purpose of recitation, acting upon it, pondering and to ask Allaah to protect us by it as it from the Sifaat of Allaah.

Questioner: You mentioned that the cure for evil eye is for the person who gave the evil eye to make Wudhoo or Ghusl and give that water to the affected person to make Wudhoo or Ghusl from[3][3]. So what is the cure for those who have been possessed by Jinn?

Shaykh Saleh: The cure is for the person has been affected by Jinn possession to have Ruqya done over him; this is done by a pious man who has Taqwa to recite Quran over him.

Questioner: There is a person who hands our Mushaf’s to Non-Muslims and Muslims alike as part as Da’wah, can we give our Zakaah to him?

Shaykh Saleh: Zakaah is only for those people whom Allaah has outlined in Surah Tawbah [9:60]. So Zakaah should be given to the Muslim who is poor, as the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Take the Zakaah from the rich and give it to the poor…[4][4]” so it is best to stick to these categories; as for supporting him then one cando this by giving Sadaqah but not Zakaah.

Questioner: How do we recite Surah al-Faatihah for Shifa in the light of the Sunnah?

Shaykh Saleh: The Sunnah is to recite Surah Faatihah from beginning to end, include saying Ameen if you wish, even though it is not part of the Surah. Then to blow with spittle of spit on the sick person or the area where there is pain.
