Questions 11


Questions asked to Shaykh Saaleh ibn Ghanam as-Sadlaan [May Allaah preserve him] in his house after Salaat al-Jumu’ah

Question: What are the best books that you would recommend that explain the six books of hadeeth [Bukhaaree, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nasaai, Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah]

Answer: Some of them are famous as you know; the books and the authors are well known such as explanations of Sunan Abu Dawood and Sunan at-Tirmidhi. Some of them have only been explained by scholars that are contemporary like Sunan an-Nasaa’i and other books of hadeeth after the six have not been explained. Some have been simplified and you can find them in Haashiyah, such as Haashiyah Sunan Abi Dawood and others. So there is much available and you can take which one is relevant for you.



Question: Is there Gheebah for a Kaafir?

Answer: Speaking about a Kaafir, if there is no need to, then we shouldn’t talk about him. But if there is a benefit and a need to talk about him and expose him then we should talk about him, such as those who call to their kufr or hatred of Islaam so that people be warned against him. For example those who speak ill against Muslims and Islam then it is Waajib for us to talk about him but those Kuffaar that aren’t against the Muslims or Islaam then we shouldn’t talk about them.



Question: What is the ruling of medical insurance for us here living in Saudi Arabia?

Answer: The correct view is that it is permissible because there is a need and necessity for it.

Questioner: Connected to this Oh Shaykh, if our company gives us a medical card and that card has a limit of 5000 riyal worth of medical care and they are selling it for 2000 riyal, is it permissible for us to buy this?

Answer: This is insurance, but this is permissible as I said because of the necessity to do so.



Question:  Some of the hadeeth give us numbers, such as 70,000 will go to Jannah without reckoning nor punishment, and there are other examples. The question is; is this number to be taken literally or are they metaphorical?

Answer: We believe what the Saadiq al-Masdooq [The most truthful of talkers, meaning the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him)] told us, so if he said 70,000 we believe in the reality and it’s not a metaphor.

Questioner: So this 70,000, does that mean there won’t be more?

Shaykh Saaleh: We believe in this number as it says in the Hadeeth



Question: If a person swore an oath and he broke it and he paid the Kafaarah al-Yameen [expiation for broken oaths], does the oath get reinforce or is the oath over?

Answer: No, the oath is over once has paid the expiation.



Question: After the blowing of the horn, will every created being die?

Answer: Yes, everything that is in the earth will die and nothing will remain.

Questioner: Does this include Heaven and Hell, will they die too?

Shaykh Saaleh: This is not mentioned in the hadeeth so they won’t die, it’s not mentioned that Hell will be extinguished and the Heaven will be ceased.



Question: I heard Shaykh Saaleh al-Fawzaan [May Allaah preserve him] say yesterday that we are not allowed to love our Kuffaar parents but we are allowed to love our wives who may be Christian or Jew because this is a natural love. So isn’t the love of parents also considered as natural love or is there a difference?

Answer: Loving your parents is a natural kind of love, so I think there is no difference in this. If you have parents who Kuffaar then Allaah tells us to treat them nicely and to obey them unless they try to make you disobey Allaah by commanding Kufr or Shirk or any form of disobedience upon you.

14. And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination.

15. But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do”

[Surah Luqmaan 31: 14-15]

So this being good and kind to them must be accompanied by love.



Question: When do those praying behind the Imaam say ‘Ameen’, is it before the Imaam, after the Imaam, or do they wait and say it with the Imaam?

Answer: What the person praying should do is try to wait for the Imaam because of the hadeeth, “When the imam says ‘Ameen’ then say ‘Ameen,’ for if a person’s saying Ameen coincides with that of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (780) and Muslim (410)

But the time for Ameen begins after the Imaam recites, ‘Wa la Daaaleeen’ so the person praying can say it after the Imaam has finished al-Faatihah, but if he coincides this saying of Ameen with the Imaam and the Angels then his sins will be forgiven. So we don’t need to wait for the Imaam but the saying of Aameen is connected to the finishing of the Faatihah.



Question: The person is asking, I was drinking Pepsi and the can is on the table. My right hand is busy as it has food in it and I supported the can with my left hand which was on the table, is this allowed? Meaning I wasn’t drinking with my left hand but was supporting it.

Answer: We are commanded to eat and drink with our right hands as much as we are able. If there is a need or necessity to drink with our left hand then this is OK.

Questioner: So this act is permissible?

Shaykh Saaleh: Yes, because there was a need. If there is a need, like if one is drinking and his right hand is busy like we see some people eating and drinking at the same time, in his right hand he has a burger and in his left hand he has a can of drink, then we say he should try as much as he can to eat and drink with the right but if there  is a need then he can drink with the left hand but once the need and necessity has gone then he must drink with his right hand.
