Fitnah al-Maal: Wealth Creates a False Sense of Obedience and Infallibility (Part 12)

From the worse of mindsets that most people have in relation to their wealth is that they feel that they have to compare themselves to others.

They constantly liken themselves to those who have more than them, just like what the companions of Qaroon did. They perceived wealth equaling to status. The more the wealth an individual has, the higher level of status and nobility.

His proposal to any woman would be accepted. If such a person attends a gathering, the audience hang on to his every word. This is the case even if he doesn’t spend a penny, but despite the fact that he has wealth, sufficient is this for his reputation and superiority to be affirmed. If he orders a command, they will not be reluctant to obey him.

However, Allaah, the Glorified and the Exalted, Said:

“And obey not everyone who swears much, and is considered worthless,”

Up to the Aayah:

“14. (He was so) because he had wealth and children.

15. When Our Verses (of the Qur'an) are recited to him, he says: "Tales of the men of old!"”
[al-Qalam 68:10-15]

Just because a person has wealth, it doesn’t make him infallible and unreservedly obeyed. What these Aayaat are asking you is, “Just because he has wealth and children, do you make this the criteria for obedience?”
