To understand this further (post #27), the mistake of the
Murji'ah stems from a principle they have in regards to the Names and Attributes of Allaah. They deny the fact that Allaah is able to Act as He
Pleases known as as-Sifaat al-Ikhtiyaariyyah. This results in them denying the possibility of Allaah acting in the present, such as having the ability to
Talk and to Hear. On this premise, they affirm that everything that the
Pre-Decree of Allaah and that everything that is bound to occur was established
within the Essence of Allaah (thus meaning if Allaah Did something then He Did
it in eternity and cannot be repeated in the present).
As a result you will find them saying that 'the
world is something newly created', meaning that anything that occurs in the
present has been newly created therefore Allaah cannot be described as acting
in the present. By affirming that Allaah Acts in the present tense means that
He had an inability to do it before and it also means that the action done in
the present has been newly created. Both of these possibilities mean affirming created
attributes to the Creator which is impossible. This is the evidence that some
of them have used to conclude that “none truly has any knowledge of Allaah except
if they understand this principle”.
This is a major flaw in what has resulted to a
corrupt way of belief. Consequently, they have denied many of the Actions and Attributes of Allaah as-Sifaat al-Ikhtiyaarriyyah; denying them on the notion that
affirming them would mean affirming created attributes for Allaah.
Undoubtedly, Allaah, the Glorified and the
Exalted, does as He Pleases when He Pleases and no time or place that can
prevent this. He Talks when He Pleases, as some of the Salaf said stated,
"He Has not ceased Talking."
In the Quraan there are numerous points of
evidences which exceed over a hundred Aayaat and the Sunnah are greater
multitude, to support this.
Allaah, the Most High, Said:
“The Day (Allah) will call to them, and say” [al-Qassas 28:65]
Here, He Will Call them on a particular day and
this will occur in the future.
And He, the Most High, Said:
“Verily, Allah commands that which He wills” [al-Maa'idah 5:1]
Here we have affirmation that He Does as He
Pleases, whenever He Pleases.
He, the Most High, Said:
“When He intends a thing, is only that He says to it,
"Be!" and it is” [Yaaseen
36:82]
He, the Glorified Said:
“So when they angered Us, We punished them, and
drowned them all.” [az-Zukhruf
43: 55]
And He Said:
“Indeed Allah has heard the statement” [al-Mujaadilah 58:1]
Also, the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of
Allaah be upon him] said, "Do you know what your Lord has Said tonight?[1]"
Some have misunderstood Ibn Taymiyyah when he
talks about this issue. Ibn Taymiyyah has discussed Allaah's Actions before
creation which has led some to believe that 'before creation' means that Allaah
Acted in eternity and that there is no beginning to them, in turn, negating the
possibility that Allaah can act in the present tense. However, the words
'before creation' are used in his works to refer to Allaah being uncreated and
affirming Sifaat al-Ikhtiyaariyyah and the ability of Allaah to Act as He
Pleases, when He Pleases.
