A Murji Doubt: al-Emaan and the Deceased [Part 27]

Also from the mistakes of the Murji'ah is in their position connected to the Emaan of the deceased. As people are bound by the Decree of Allaah, they classify a person as a believer or a disbeliever upon the state that the person is decreed to die upon.

What this means is that a believer is only declared as a believer and opposing disbelief on the condition that they die in a state of belief. They liken this to a person who prays Salaah but nullifies the prayer before he finishes it, this person is not considered to have prayed.

Based on this objection of theirs they concluded to believe that if a person who hates al-Islaam and rejects it all their lives, and they continue to hate it and its people, but they submit to Islaam and become a believer towards the end of their lives, perhaps even moments before his death, then this person was actually considered as a believer all of their lives and thus beloved to Allaah throughout his life, as they were Decreed as being believers and died in such a state.

This belief is unfounded and the texts of the Sharee'ah nullify such a stance. The texts describe a believer only becoming a believer if they reject disbelief, thus there being a difference between the two points in time, the point of time where he believed and another moment in time where he disbelieved.
Allaah, the Most High, Said:

Verily, those who disbelieved after their Belief and then went on increasing in their disbelief (i.e. disbelief in the Qur'an and in Prophet Muhammad  ) - never will their repentance be accepted [because they repent only by their tongues and not from their hearts]. And they are those who are astray.” [aal 'Imraan 3:90]

And the Most High Said:

Verily, those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe (again), and (again) disbelieve, and go on increasing in disbelief; Allah will not forgive them, nor guide them on the (Right) Way.” [an-Nisaa 4:137]

And the Most High Said:

That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed, so they understand not.” [al-Munaafiqoon 63: 3]

And the Glorified Said:

“You have disbelieved after you had believed” [at-Tawbah 9:66]
