Kitaab al-Emaan: Entering into al-Islaam (Part 3)

-Therefore, al-Islaam is to submit to Allaah with submissiveness and Tawheed and to fulfill the acts of worship which are obligatory upon you, indifferent to what Ahl al-Kalaam say that Emaan is in the heart, it doesn't go up nor down according to them.

-Nawawi states that once a person becomes a Muslim then he becomes from Ahl al-Qiblah and is not taken out of this if he sins. Becoming a Muslim must be done with pronouncing the Shahaadatayn verbally. Ahl al-Kalaam say that Emaan is to believe and have no doubt in ones heart, but this isn't acceptable to class a person as a Muslim - there must be a verbal pronunciation (unless if one is physically unable).

-The majority that making Bara'aah (verbal disassociation) isn't a condition and testifying with the Shahaadatayn is sufficient.

If he comes from a religion or a background in which there are many false Aqeedah then he must make Baraa’ in his Shahaadatayn, this is the opinion of the Shafi'ees.

Others from the Shafi'ees say he must make Baraa' of his false religion if it directly conflicts with Islaam, such as believing in a false prophet. If he doesn't make Bara'aah then he is not counted as a Muslim. This is the view that an-Nawawee sides with.

-One cannot become a Muslim by saying “La ila ila Allaah”alone, rather he must utter both testimonies.

The Shafi'ees said that if a person says “La ila ila Allaah” then he is asked to testify to the Prophethood of Muhammad, if he doesn't, then he is to be killed as an apostate.

The majority say he isn't an apostate thereby, and saying “La ila ila Allaah” alone is acceptable if we know that he believes in Muhammad being the final Prophet of Allaah (Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him).

-If a person denies aspects of his old religion and affirms aspects of Islaam as being something Wajib upon him, such as as-Salaat, then he becomes Muslim by this also. This is the view of the Shafi'ees.

-A person who cant speak Arabic or cant speak it well, becomes a Muslim by uttering the Shadatayn in Arabic or his own language.
