Fitnah al-Maal: Is Wealth a Source of Self-Destruction? (Part 17)

With this, we ask; who is there from us that is safe from the punishment of Allaah? Who can safely say that his wealth will not be a source of self-destruction and divine punishment to descend upon him? How many people are filled with sorrow and depression because of this very reason? How many have been punished in the Dunyaa, and as a result, are not susceptible to punishment in the Aakhirah?

Another narrative in the Quraan comes in Soorah al-Qalam. There was a syndicate of business partners who decided one day;

“No Miskin (poor man) shall enter upon you into it today.” [al-Qalam 68:24]

When they saw their punishement due to this evil plot, they said:

“Glory to Our Lord! Verily, we have been Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).” [al-Qalam 68:29]

They made this plan to prevent the poor from eating from the fruits of their garden, by morning their garden was destroyed.

So which one of us can safely say that they will not be suddenly punished on account of their sins?

The only way we can gain security is if we give the rights of Allaah that He has placed in the wealth we own.
