Fitnah al-Maal: Why Worship Allaah with Our Wealth? (Part 18)

Why do we obey Allaah through our wealth?

Firstly, because Allaah is the Provider. He is the One Who Favours and Gives us from His Bounties. If this is case, then it is obligatory upon us to thank Him, by obeying Him through the wealth He has Given to us.

Secondly, if you obey Allaah through your wealth and fulfill the rights that wealth has over you, then through this, you are safeguarding yourself against the Anger and Punishment of Allaah, the Glorified and the Exalted. You are safeguarding yourself from the Fire of Jahannam.

“On the Day when that (Al-Kanz: money, gold and silver, etc., the Zakat of which has not been paid) will be heated in the Fire of Hell and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, (and it will be said unto them):-"This is the treasure which you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you used to hoard.” [at-Tawbah 9:35]

In this Aayah is the example of a person who doesn’t pay his Zakaat, so what is his punishment – his skin is stretched out-forth, for every cell and part of his skin, the wealth he had hoarded is placed on it. However, the wealth he had hoarded will be blazed with the fire of Jahannam.

"This is the treasure which you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you used to hoard.” [at-Tawbah 9:35]

When this person enters their grave, his hoarded will come to him with an extremely foul smell and ghastly of in its appearance. The person in the grave will ask, “What are you?” It will reply by saying, “I am your savings.[1]

Wealth is used to gain the Pleasure of Allaah, the Lord of Glory and Might and to ward off His Punishment.

Viewing Others With an Agenda

Ibn al-Qayyim [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said:

The one who views things with the agenda of having hatred alone, will see all deeds including good ones, as being bad deeds.

The one who views things with the agenda of having love alone will be the opposite of them.
Nobody is saved from having these two agendas except the one who, as Allaah Wills from His Generosity and Pleasure, seeks the truth.

Closest to The Prophet on the Day of Judgement

On the authority of ‘Abdallah bin Mas’ood [may Allaah be Pleased with him] that the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] said:

The closest of people to me on the Day of Judgement are those who send Peace and Blessings of Allaah upon me the most.

Difference Between a Condition, a Cause and a Prevention (Part 19)

PRINCIPLE: The difference between a condition (الشرط), a cause (السبب) and a prevention (المانع) is:

A condition (الشرط) is when something must be present as a prerequisite, like Wudhoo is a condition for as-Salaat.

A cause (السبب) is the reason or the point of time when an action becomes legislated, such as having the threshold of valuables is a cause for Zakaat becoming obligatory.

A prevention (المانع) is when something must be removed before the action can be performed.

Therefore, a ‘condition’ and ‘prevention’ are opposites in relation to the presence of a thing.

Chapter: Asking about the Pillars of al-Islaam

It is reported on the authority of Talha b. 'Ubaidullah that a person with dishevelled hair, one of the people of Nejd, came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). We heard the humming of his voice but could not fully discern what he had been saying, till he came nigh to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). It was then (disclosed to us) that he was asking questions pertaining to Islam. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
Five prayers during the day and the night. (Upon this he said: Am I obliged to say any other (prayer) besides these? He (the Holy Prophet, ) said: No, but whatever you observe voluntarily, out of your own free will, and the fasts of Ramadan. The inquirer said: Am I obliged to do anything else besides this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but whatever you do out of your own free will. And the Messenger of Allah told him about the Zakat (poor-rate). The inquirer said: Am I obliged to pay anything else besides this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but whatever you pay voluntarily out of your own free will. The man turned back and was saying: I would neither make any addition to this, nor will decrease anything out of it. The Prophet remarked: He is successful, if he is true to what he affirms.

Hadeeth of the Bedioun
-The first command is to know the Usool ad-Deen, even if the person doesn’t know the Daleel for his Aqeedah, this was stated by Ibn Salaah.

[TN: this is incorrect as the statement of the Prophet to the bedioun is Daleel in itself, but Ahl as-Sunnah are agreed that the Emaan of a Muqallid is valid]

-The Hadeeth shows that each pillar has Faraa’id and everything else is optional.

The word “Illaa” (translated above as "No, but whatever you pay voluntarily out of your own free will") is said to mean "rather".

So the meaning is “No, rather you should do more optional.”

Others said the wording means that he won't add to what is obligatory in quantity or amount (thus corresponding with the above translation).

-It is proof that there are only five prayers, al-Witr and al-'Eid not being Waajib and likewise fasting the day of 'Aashooraa' is not Wajib neither.

-It is permissible to mention Ramadhaan without saying the 'month of' Ramadhan.

-One must affirm what is Haraam and stay away from it, but as for Halaal he is only bound to affirm it without needing to indulge in it.

Benefits in Mustalah al-Hadeeth

-The wording of some narrations differ from the companion, but this doesn’t affect the authenticity. Either they add more information, in which case Ziyaadah ath-Thiqah is accepted or at times the narrator withhold information if they are unsure.

-‘Amash comes with "‘An'Anah'" in Saheeh Muslim, but Muslim only uses these narrations if there are Shawaahid (supporting chains) or Tataabu’ (follow up chains). Therefore, there is no Tadlees in the chains of Imaam Muslim.

-Ibn ‘Umar heard the Hadeeth of al-Islaam being built in both ways, some proceed with the wording of “Ramadaan” before “Hajj” and some after. All of these are Marfoo’.

Ibn Salaah stated that Ibn ‘Umar narrated the Hadeeth by meaning, however an-Nawawi stated that the Usl is that he narrated as he heard it, and there is a chain which states that Ibn ‘Umar affirms he heard it with that wording as reported in Muslim.

Ibn Salaah also suggest that the Hadeeth of “Ramadhaan” before Hajj is narrated in chronological order, however an-Nawawi suggests that this is weak also because if we make this a condition to narrate Ahadeeth then the wording of many narrations will become disorganised.

Furthermore to prove that the point that both wordings are correctly attributed to the Prophet, the majority have stated the acts of worship mentioned in this narration and others like it doesn’t necessitate a particular order.

Fitnah al-Maal: Is Wealth a Source of Self-Destruction? (Part 17)

With this, we ask; who is there from us that is safe from the punishment of Allaah? Who can safely say that his wealth will not be a source of self-destruction and divine punishment to descend upon him? How many people are filled with sorrow and depression because of this very reason? How many have been punished in the Dunyaa, and as a result, are not susceptible to punishment in the Aakhirah?

Another narrative in the Quraan comes in Soorah al-Qalam. There was a syndicate of business partners who decided one day;

“No Miskin (poor man) shall enter upon you into it today.” [al-Qalam 68:24]

When they saw their punishement due to this evil plot, they said:

“Glory to Our Lord! Verily, we have been Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).” [al-Qalam 68:29]

They made this plan to prevent the poor from eating from the fruits of their garden, by morning their garden was destroyed.

So which one of us can safely say that they will not be suddenly punished on account of their sins?

The only way we can gain security is if we give the rights of Allaah that He has placed in the wealth we own.

Purification of the Heart Dictates Your Reward

Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said:

Whoever Allaah does not purify in their hearts, then disgrace in the Dunyaa and punishment in the Aakhirah become incumbent upon him to the degree of impurities that exist in his heart.

Shuraym: Congregating Muslims is a Cause for Success

Shaykh Sa’ood bin Ibraaheem ash-Shuraym, Imaam and Khateeb of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, tweeted:

Friday has been called al-Jumu’ah because it is a time where people congregate (Jam’) to pray. If only the Muslims took the reverence they had for this day and applied it the Ummah as a whole, we would have power and stability throughout the week, just as we do on the day of Jumu’ah.

How To Wipe in at-Tayammum - Following the Correct Sequence (Part 18)

2-That one follows the order of at-Tayammum in minor impurities. Al-‘Uthaymeen explains that the order is to begin by wiping over the face then the left palm over the outer part of the right hand and then the right palm over the outer part of the left hand.

The evidence for this includes the following:

-The Statement of the Most High, Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands” [al-Maa’idah 5:6]

Here we have proof that one must start with the face first.

-The Hadeeth, “Begin with what Allaah began with” [Reported by an-Nasaa’ee (3968), ad-Daaraqutnee (2/254)]

A- Sequence also means that wiping over the face and then the hands doesn’t have a big gap in between. The gap between each limbs is the time it would take to dry if it was washed with water – as preceded the limbs in Wudhoo must be washed in sequence before the previous limb has dried naturally otherwise the sequence would be broken.

The same time span applies here – that the person must follow the sequence with there being a big gap.

The Hanbalees argued that the ruling of something takes the same ruling (at-Tayammum) of that which it has replaced (al-Wudhoo). Therefore, just as a big gap in Wudhoo isn’t allowed, then a big gap in at-Tayammum isn’t allowed either.

However, having a gap in at-Tayammum for major impurities is permitted, as having a gap in major impurities, or having a particular sequence isn’t a condition for them.
However, the correct opinion with al-Uthaymeen is that sequence is a condition in both minor and major forms of purification. This is based on the Hadeeth of ‘Ammaar above. As for making Qiyaas with water in minor and major forms of impurity, then this Qiyaas is making an analogy with two separate issues altogether – because water is a purification for the whole body in major impurities but not in at-Tayammum.

So what appears to be correct is that one must follow the sequence and the gap between wiping the face and the hands applies to both forms of impurities, because that’s the form given and there is only one from at-Tayammum for both forms of impurities.

Kitaab al-Emaan: Benefits from Hadeeth Jibreel (Part 5)

Hadeeth Jibreel: The first Hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim is about denying Qadr

-He quotes al-Khattaabi in stating that al-Qadaa and al-Qadr is not Jabr and not denying Qadr, rather it is connected to the Ilm of Allaah and His Ability.

-Qadaa can be Khalq, as in the Aayah:

"Then He completed and finished from their creation" [al-Fussillat: 12]

-Nawawi states that there are many statements which affirm that if the person doesn’t believe in Qada or Qadr then his deeds are nullified and he has no rewards for doing them.

-Mutazilah use Hadeeth with "Laysa Minaa" to mean that there is no al-Emaan if one does major sins, Amr bin Ubayd said.

- Ma'bad al-Juhanee (80AH) first called to Qadr and Amr bin 'Ubayd was effected and was killed with a slow death in prison by al-Hajjaj (140AH)

-Nawawi said that the slave woman will give birth to her master means that there will be a lot of slavery and she will be bought and sold back to her child.

It could also mean that the child is free whilst she isn't.

[TN: but none said it refers to increase in incest]

-The signs mentioned don't carry a particular ruling, rather they are all description such as increase in killing and Riba etc.

-Hadeeth No.6 states they will shepard of immature cattle, thus their wealth is insignificant.

-Hadeeth No.7 describes the nomads as "deaf and dumb becoming kings of the earth", meaning they are ignorant and don't benefit from what they are given.

Fitnah al-Maal: Are Civlised Societies Immune Because of Their Wealth? (Part 16)

In Soorah al-Kahf there is a story of two men. This story is commonly known as the story of the
‘Owner of The Garden’. In it is a narrative. The owner of the garden said to his impoverished friend:

“I am more than you in wealth and stronger in respect of men.”  [al-Kahf 18:34]

This was his minsdet but what was his end? Where and how was he punished?

“So his fruits were encircled (with ruin). And he remained clapping his hands with sorrow over what he had spent upon it, while it was all destroyed on its trellises, he could only say: "Would I had ascribed no partners to my Lord!"” [al-Kahf 18:42]

This man was punished in the Dunyaa and not the Aakhirah, and in this is a lesson. He had the most advanced of gardens, similar to many who have the most advanced technology in their business and factories. His revenue was a plenty and his business was highly profitable. He spent on his business with pomp and arrogance, buying the most advanced of technologies with the highest of prices so that he can boast the most successful business. His life full of luxuries and riches, yet, he was punished.

But the question is why? Why was this man punished?

The answer is simple, he neglected the right(s) of Allaah in his wealth. As a result, Allaah Punished him with the very thing that he had pride in. He was destroyed by his own to hands.

To Fulfill All The Rights of Allaah Over You is Impossible

Imaam Talq bin Habeeb al-Enezi (May Allaah have Mercy on him) [d. before 100 AH] said:

To fulfill all the rights of Allaah over you is impossible. Despite this, He continues to give to His Slaves, favors which are innumerable. So rise in the morning making Tawbah and enter your evenings making Tawbah.

Tafseer: Allah sends His Salat on the Prophet

"Allah sends His Salat (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on the Prophet (Muhammad ) and also His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salat on (ask Allah to bless) him (Muhammad ), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation i.e. As-Salamu 'Alaikum)." [al-Ahzaab 33:56]

Imaam 'Abdur-Rahman as-Sa'dee [may Allaah have Mercy on him] wrote in explanation:

Allaah Sending His Salaat means that He Praises the Prophet in front of the Angels, in the Highest Assembly of them. This shows His Love, the Most High, for His Prophet to the extent that He Praises the Prophet in front of his closest of Angels.

How To Wipe in at-Tayammum - Wipe the Outer Parts of the Hands to the Wrists (Part 17)

1-Wipiing the hands is up to the wrist. Al-‘Uthaymeen explains that some stated that we must wipe up to the elbow. They quoted as evidence:

-and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows” [al-Maa’idah 5:6]

In this Aayah we make Qiyaas (analogy) between al-Wudhoo and at-Tayammum.

However, this Qiyaas is invalid because:

-at-Tayammum can’t be compared to Wudhoo as the limbs and sequence is completely different.

-purification using water is different to purification using earth.

-water is an actual cleaning agent whereas earth isn’t.

-the principle of Haml al-Mutlaq ala al-Muqayyad applies here, so we take the description which is specific to at-Tayammum rather than the general to Wudhoo.

-The Hadeeth, “at-Tayammym is two beatings of the earth. One beating to wipe over the face and the second beating to wipe over the hands up to the elbows.” [ad-Daaraqutnee (1/180), al-Haakim (1/179), al-Bayhaqee (1/207) but the Hadeeth is weak du to the presence of Abdul-Haqq al-Ishbeelee as stated by Ibn Hajar and others. See: at-Talkhees al-Habeer (208) and al-Buloogh (130)]

However, the correct opinion is to wipe up to the wrist. The evidence for this includes:

-perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands” [5:6]

-The word hand in the Quraan refers to the wrist, Cut off (from the wrist joint) the (right) hand of the thief” [5:38]

-The Hadeeth of ‘Ammaar bin Yaasir that the Prophet ““It is sufficient for you to beat the earth and wipe over your face and then right outer hand and left outer arm.” Then he wiped off the earth that was on his hands. [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (337) and Muslim (347)]

There is no mention of wiping up to the elbow here.

Kitaab al-Emaan: al-Isitinhaa in al-Emaan (Part 4)

Nawawi talks about the difference of opinion about saying, “I am a Mu’min Inshallah”:

-Some said its permitted, as it removes self-praise, it is a form of asking for Barakah from Allaah and returns all future events to Allaah, as he doesn’t know in what state he will die.
-Some said its not permitted as it implies doubt and this is Kufr.

Nawawi said that both parties have an argument as was stated by al-Awzaa’ee, thus one can chose either.

By extension, some even said one must say Inshallah when affirming Kufr for people, but Nawawi states that this isn’t the correct opinion.

Fitnah al-Maal: Successful with Wealth is Subjective (Part 15)

Allaah, the Gloirified and the Exalted, Says:

“O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers.” [al-Munaafiqoon 63:9]

When the Reckoning has taken place and the results are made apparent, those who are successful will only be those who have been successful for a particular reason. In contrast to those who have lost, they will only be losers for a particular reason. Account and place yourself, where do you belong? Are you with the party that spend their time not worshipping your Lord but chasing the wealth of the Dunyaa?

"Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter..."

Hasan al-Basree said about the Dua’a:

"Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!" [al-Baqarah 2:201]

“Give us in this world that which is good” means give us beneficial knowledge and worship.

“and in the Hereafter that which is good” means Jannah.

Ibn al-Qayyim said, “This is from the best of Tafseers (explanations) of this Aayah”

Fortieth Benefit of Sending Peace and Blessings of Allaah Upon the Prophet (Part 11 - FINAL)

Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim [may Allaah have Mercy on him] said in his book Jalaa al-Afhaam in the Chapter: The Benefits and Virtues Gained by Sending Peace and Blessings of Allaah upon the Prophet:

40 – Sending Peace and Blessings of Allaah upon the Prophet is a Dua’a and making this Dua’a to Allaah is of two types:

-Asking that Allaah fulfils the needs of the Prophet and makes easy his affairs. This Dua’a is the Dua’a of asking and pleaing.

-Asking Allaah that He Praises him, the loved and beloved and that Allaah increases him in honour and nobility. That Allaah raises his rank and his mention, and there is no doubt that Allaah, the Most High, Loves His Messenger and His Messenger loves Allaah. So in this part of his Dua’a the person sending the Peace and Blessings of Allaah upon the Prophet is sparing making Dua’a for himself and his needs but instead sacrifices this for the love of Allaah and His Messenger. As a result, his own needs and wants are in turn fulfilled. Rather, the person who makes this sacrifice does it out of complete love for Allaah and His Messenger and does it in order to gain their love. He wants their love more than having his wants and needs fulfilled. However, Allaah Rewards a deed by reciprocating with what is similar – so just as he seeks the love of Allaah and His Messenger, he gains this and much more in return. This is because they display their emmense love for him by giving precendence to the Prophet as they believe he has a greater right over themselves than themselves.

If there was no benefit in sneidng Peace and Blessings of Allaah upon the Prophet except for this last point, then it would be sufficient for the believer.

Conditions for at-Tayammum: Fourth Condition - Granular Earth (Part 16)

4-That the earth be granular. Uthaymeen explains again this is a condition with the Hanbalees, but the correct opinion is that it doesn’t have to be granular, such as sand or soil.

The Hanbalees stated that if a person doesn’t find earth that is granular then there is no at-Tayammum and he prays without purification.

They argue that the Aayah, “Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands” [al-Maa’idah 5:6]

This means that one must be able to wipe and this can only be done if it is using granular earth.
Uthaymeen states that this is not the correct opinion based on what has been discussed previously, namely, the Aayah, “Tayammum with clean earth” [al-Maa’idah 5:6]

This  is general and there is nothing to specify the meaning.

Also, the Prophet described on how to make at-Tayammum to Ammaar bin Yaasir and didn’t mention granular earth. Rather he said, “It is sufficient for you to beat the earth and wipe over your face and then right outer hand and left outer arm.” Then he wiped off the earth that was on his hands. [Reported by al-Bukhaaree (337) and Muslim (347)]
A-
The Hanbalees stated that granular earth must be Mubaah, if it is not Mubaah then at-Tayammum with it is impermissible, such as if a person stole some earth and made at-Tayammum with it.
Al-‘Uthaymeen states that the difference of opinion on this is well-known and it stems from the argument already discussed that “water must be permissibly gained in order to use it for Wudhoo or Ghusl”.

As for the correct opinion, then if a person steals earth and makes at-Tayammum with it then the Tayammum is valid. The same applies to stealing water, however the scholars say it is Makrooh to use said water/earth, yet valid.

Kitaab al-Emaan: Entering into al-Islaam (Part 3)

-Therefore, al-Islaam is to submit to Allaah with submissiveness and Tawheed and to fulfill the acts of worship which are obligatory upon you, indifferent to what Ahl al-Kalaam say that Emaan is in the heart, it doesn't go up nor down according to them.

-Nawawi states that once a person becomes a Muslim then he becomes from Ahl al-Qiblah and is not taken out of this if he sins. Becoming a Muslim must be done with pronouncing the Shahaadatayn verbally. Ahl al-Kalaam say that Emaan is to believe and have no doubt in ones heart, but this isn't acceptable to class a person as a Muslim - there must be a verbal pronunciation (unless if one is physically unable).

-The majority that making Bara'aah (verbal disassociation) isn't a condition and testifying with the Shahaadatayn is sufficient.

If he comes from a religion or a background in which there are many false Aqeedah then he must make Baraa’ in his Shahaadatayn, this is the opinion of the Shafi'ees.

Others from the Shafi'ees say he must make Baraa' of his false religion if it directly conflicts with Islaam, such as believing in a false prophet. If he doesn't make Bara'aah then he is not counted as a Muslim. This is the view that an-Nawawee sides with.

-One cannot become a Muslim by saying “La ila ila Allaah”alone, rather he must utter both testimonies.

The Shafi'ees said that if a person says “La ila ila Allaah” then he is asked to testify to the Prophethood of Muhammad, if he doesn't, then he is to be killed as an apostate.

The majority say he isn't an apostate thereby, and saying “La ila ila Allaah” alone is acceptable if we know that he believes in Muhammad being the final Prophet of Allaah (Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him).

-If a person denies aspects of his old religion and affirms aspects of Islaam as being something Wajib upon him, such as as-Salaat, then he becomes Muslim by this also. This is the view of the Shafi'ees.

-A person who cant speak Arabic or cant speak it well, becomes a Muslim by uttering the Shadatayn in Arabic or his own language.

Fitnah al-Maal: Always Remember, Provisions are from Allaah (Part 14)

Provision are from Allaah, so don’t deviate from this fact:

“so seek your provision from Allah (Alone)” [al-‘Ankaboot 29:17]

And,

“And wish not for the things in which Allah has made some of you to excel others. For men there is reward for what they have earned, (and likewise) for women there is reward for what they have earned, and ask Allah of His Bounty.” [an-Nisaa 4:32]

And,

“And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised.
23. Then, by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is the truth (i.e. what has been promised to you), just as it is the truth that you can speak.” [ad-Dhaariyaat 51:22-23]

From the matters that the Sharee’ah heavily emphasizes and warning in one using their time in gaining wealth in sacrifice of worshipping and obeying Allaah. Contrary to what this type of person thinks, in reality, it is clear loss in both the Dunyaa and the Aakhirah.
