Allaah, the Most High, Says:
“And it is not your wealth, nor your children that bring you nearer to Us (i.e. pleases Allah), but only he (will please Us) who believes (in the Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds; as for such, there will be twofold reward for what they did, and they will reside in the high dwellings (Paradise) in peace and security.” [Saba’ 34:37]
This is a description of those whose wealth enables them to get closer to Allaah. Your wealth by itself will not benefit you and not bring you closer to Allaah. It is only those who use it in His cause that benefit by their wealth, they are those who believe and do good deeds, as mentioned in this Aayah.
Allaah, the Glorified and the Exalted, Says in explaining the plight of those who have wealth and are not benefitted by it:
“Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)!
12. And then granted him resources in abundance.
13. And children to be by his side!
14. And made life smooth and comfortable for him!
15. After all that he desires that I should give more;
16. Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).
17. I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment!” [al-Muddathir 74:11-17]
In another place,
“1. Woe to every slanderer and backbiter.
2. Who has gathered wealth and counted it,
3. He thinks that his wealth will make him last forever!
4. Nay! Verily, he will be thrown into the crushing Fire.
5. And what will make you know what the crushing Fire is?
6. The fire of Allah, kindled,
7. Which leaps up over the hearts,
8. Verily, it shall be closed in on them,
9. In pillars stretched forth (i.e. they will be punished in the Fire with pillars, etc.).
” [Surah al-Humazah]
Look at the end of the one who gathered his riches, what is the description given to their end? A fire that burns the body to the inner part of his organs!
“And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction).” [al-Layl 92:11]
In this Aayah is further proof that their wealth will not benefit them when they return. Rather, it is will be said to them on that day, “Seize them!”
“My wealth has not availed me,” [al-Haaqah 69:28]
