Points taken from the talk ‘How to Honour the Sunnah’
Shaykh Sa’d bin Naasir ash-Shithree [May Allaah Preserve him]

9/4/1434 - 20/2/2013From the ways one can honour the Sunnah is to ask about it, to learn and be guided to it by seeking the rulings from the Sunnah in each of our affairs.
“Say: "If
you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah),
Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful."”
[aal-Imraan 3:31]
“Indeed in the
Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the
Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.” [al-Ahzaab 33:21]
Therefore it is upon us to set aside time to
study, research and find the Sunnah; read it, listen to audios, sit in circles
that explain the Sunnah etc.
“The angels lower their wings
for the seeker of knowledge, and the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth
pray for forgiveness for the scholar, even the fish in the sea, as it says in
the hadeeth narrated by al-Tirmidhi (no. 2682), Abu Dawood (3641), al-Nasaa’i
(158) and Ibn Maajah (223); this hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in
Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.
So all our affairs must go back to it and we
must seek it as a resolution for all our affairs, especially in matters that we
may dispute in.
“(And) if you differ
in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you
believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for
final determination.” [an-Nisaa
4:59]
Meaning, ones Emaan is affirmed by going back to
the Sunnah in times of differing and the best end is for those who do this.
