Chapter: The prohibition of pride and definition of it

It Is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), observed:
He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people.
Explanation
-Nawawi affirms al-Jameel for Allah and that means all forms of goodness and beauty is for Allaah, in His Names and Attributes and Actions. Al-Khattaabi added that it also includes the Noor of Allaah's Face.
-Abu Ma'aalee al-Juwayni also gives a principle that whenever Allaah's Describes Himself in His Names and Attributes in a general sense then it remains in its generality.
-Khattabi says Kibr here means a person won't enter Jannah with it or he won't have Kibr when entering Jannah. However Nawawi says these are weak and sides with Qaadhee that the meaning is that one won't entertJannah until Kibr has been removed.

Sharh Sahih Muslim of Nawawi, 2/102-106

And Allaah Knows best
