Questions asked to
Shaykh Saleh ibn Ghunam as-Sadlaan [May Allaah preserve him] in his house after
Salaat al-Jumu‘ah, ar-Riyadh
20/5/1435 – 21/3/2014
Question: Is it true that historical relics or buildings
have been destroyed in Saudi Arabia and do they have relevance in worship?
Answer: Nobody should be attached to places or buildings,
the only thing that must remain is the Ka’bah. It remains as it is and it can
not be destroyed, this is what the Salaf ruled. In the past the Ka’bah had been
effected by floods and fire, so they restored the building and at times they
would change its shape, however the scholars thereafter agreed that it is not
permissible thereafter to change anything from its shape. Its has been
renovated as the Prophet renovated it, and the shape we see today is the shape
that existed in his day.
