It is
reported in Sunnan Ibn Maajah on the authority of Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be
Pleased with him) that the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said:
“On the
Day of Judgement, people will be seated in rows according to their punctuality
on the Day of al-Jumu’ah. So the the early comer will be at the front, then
those after him and then those after him.”
(Ibn
Maajah, 1094 but classed as weak by al-Albaanee)
This
narration is supported by what was reported by at-Tabaraanee in al-Kabeer that
Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be Pleased with him) said:
Hasten to
be early for al-Jumu’ah, because on that day Allaah -the Glorified and the
Exalted- presents the people who hasten to al-Jumu’ah to the people of al-Jannah,
as if they were a perfumed garment. So those who attend the earliest will be
the closest of those presented to them.
Shaykh
al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah stated after presenting the various routes for this
narration, ”There is no way Ibn Mas’ood knew this information except that the Prophet
(Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him) informed him of it.”
