On the authority of Aboo Hurayrah [may Allaah be Pleased
with him] that The Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Are
you not amazed how Allaah evades from me the insults and curses from the
Quraysh? They insult and curse me with bad words ( (مذم but I am Muhammad (محمد)!”
[Reported by al-Bukhaaree (3340)]
Mullah ‘Aleebin Sultaan Qaaree [may Allaah have Mercy on
him] said:
Meaning they try to insult him or attach negative
characteristics to him ( (مذمم
but he is (محمد) – he has praiseworthy characteristics and is Praised by
Allaah.
It is also said that the Quraysh Makkah used to refer to him
as Muttham, in order to mock and ridicule, as it sound similar to his
real name, Muhammad.
