Shaykh 'Abdul-Kareem bin 'Abdullah
al-Khudayr [May Allaah Preserve him], Member of Permanent Committee of Senior
Scholars, Saudi Arabia, said:
Ilm
is to understand the Quran and the Sunnah in its proper manner with the
objective to get closer to Allah and have fear of him
‘It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear
Allah’ (35:28)
Whatever
that doesn’t lead to having Fear in Allah is not ilm in reality
Some
may say that there are people who have academic knowledge have more fear in Allah
than some students of knowledge, we say this is because of their depth of pondering
‘And also in your ownselves. Will you not then see?’ (51:21)
This
doesn’t mean that they are elevated because of their knowledge but their degree
of pondering and consciousness.
