As for the word al-Emaan then the texts of the
Sharee'ah are extensive and broad. All of the possible defintions of the word
al-Emaan provide evidence that al-Emaan is connected to the limbs, statements
and actions of the heart, comprehensively.
For example, the texts at times refers to the
word al-Emaan as an act of the heart, as Allaah the Most High Said:
“for Faith has not yet entered your hearts” [al-Hujaraat 49:14]
And He Said:
“For such He has written Faith in their hearts” [al-Mujaadilah
58:22]
And He Said:
“but their hearts have no faith” [al-Maa'idah 5: 41]
Likewise, the word al-Emaan has been used to
refer to the statement that a believer utters.
The Most High Said:
“And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We
believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our
Lord."” [aal 'Imraan 3:
7]
And He Said:
“On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their legs or feet
will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.” [an-Noor 24: 51]
The texts have also described al-Emaan as being
connected to the actions of the limbs.
The Most
High Said:
“Be afraid of Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from Riba (usury) (from now onward), if you
are (really) believers.” [al-Baqarah
2: 278]
And He Said:
“So fear Allah and adjust all matters of difference among you, and
obey Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad
), if you are believers.” [al-Anfaal 8: 1]
It has also been narrated that the Prophet
[Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him] said[1],
"al-Emaan has seventy odd branches, the highest of which is to say, 'There
is no god but Allaah'" this is a statement that a person makes.
He continued, "…and the lowest of these
branches is to remove something harmful from the path", this is connected
to the actions of the limbs.
He continued again, "…and humility is a
branch of al-Emaan", this is Emaan connected to ones heart.
