On the authority of Sahl bin Sa’d [may Allaah
be Pleased with him] said that the Prophet [Peace and Blessings be upon him]
said, “Verily, all actions are judged by the final ones.” [Reported by
al-Bukhaaree (6607)]
Al-Haafidh ‘Abdul-Haqq ash-Shabeelee [may
Allaah have Mercy on him] said:
Know! That a sign of a bad end – may Allaah
protect us from such – will not afflict someone where his outer-deeds are
steadfast and his inner-self (i.e. thoughts, intentions and acts of worship of
the heart) is pure.
A sign of a bad end is where a person’s
intellect is corrupt and his inner-self has firm intention to commit major sins
and translate such intentions into his actions.
It may be that a person has these intentions
right up until the point of death, and then he repents before his life is
taken, in which case the person will be rewarded. In such a case, it could be
that the Shaytaan distracts and seeks to delay the Tawbah of such a person up
until the final point of his life, he repents, and thus is taken in this state
(i.e. of repentance).
[The Final End and Remembering Death (Pg.
178)]
It is narrated on the authority of Hudhayfah
[may Allaah be Pleased with him] that the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of
Allaah be upon him] said, “Whoever fasts a day, seeking by it the Face of
Allaah, and dies in such a state – will enter Jannah.”
[Ahmad (22235) and classed as Saheeh li
Ghayrihi by al-Arna’oot]
In a similar narration reported
by Muslim (5126), “Every slave will be resurrected doing what he did when he
died.”
Ibn Jawzee [may Allaah have Mercy
on him] said, “The person will be raised in the state he died upon – his final
deed will be the deed that he is resurrected doing.” [Kashf al-Muskhil fi
Hadeeth as-Saheehayn (1/751)]
