Tafseer: Being Ignorant is From The Ways of The Hypocrites

Allaah, the Most High, says;

الْأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرًا وَنِفَاقًا وَأَجْدَرُ أَلَّا يَعْلَمُوا حُدُودَ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

"The Bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be in ignorance of the limits (Allah's Commandments and His Legal Laws, etc.) which Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise. "

[Tawbah 9:97]

Imaam Abu Ja'far, Ibn Jareer at-Tabaree [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said in his Tafseer:

"Allaah, the Most High, mentions that the Bedouins are the worst of those who strive against having Tawheed. They are the worst and are notorious in having Nifaaq compared to those who live in the urban areas. This is a characteristic given to them, meaning they are miserable and their hearts are closed. Very few of them have good in them but most of them have their hearts sealed because of their ignorance and lacking in knowledge.

'…and more likely to be in ignorance of the limits (Allah's Commandments and His Legal Laws, etc.) which Allah has revealed to His Messenger…'

Meaning, they are ignorant of the laws that Allaah has revealed upon His Messenger, because of this Qataadah said that they this part of the Ayah refers to them being ignorant and knowing very little of the Sunnah."
