Shaykh Muhammad bin Saaleh al-‘Uthaymeen [May
Allaah have Mercy on him] was asked:
Question: If one eats too much for Iftaar does
it reduce the reward for his fasting?
Answer: No, it doesn’t reduce the reward for his
fasting. If one commits a sin after his fasting is over then this has no effect
on the reward for the act of worship which he has completed, this is included
in the Aayah:
“…and eat and
drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allah) likes not Al-Musrifun
(those who waste by extravagance).” [A’raaf 7:31]
Being extravagant in of itself is a sin. Being
economic is half of our live, if one has surplus wealth then instead of wasting
it he should use it in giving in charity, this would be much better.
