Good Deeds After Relief

Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that - then those are the defiantly disobedient.

[Surah an-Noor 24:55]

Imaam Ibn al-‘Arabee [May Allaah have Mercy on him] says in his Tafseer:

This Aayah was revealed when the Companions [May Allaah be Pleased with them all] complained to the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be Upon him] as they were scared from an enemy. Fear overtook them and they were extremely stressed out by the pressure and harm that had been placed upon them by their enemies from the Kuffaar. And then this Aayah was revealed, an Aayah that promised them a beautiful promise, that Allaah will rescue them. So as a result, Allaah gave the Muslims dominion over the Kuffaar and He gave them victory over their enemies. [Ahkaam al-Quraan 3/80]

So thank Him my brothers, turn to Him, have Tawakkul in Him, Obey Him and leave His disobedience, and remember, as the Aayah above says, those who do Kufr and Kufr here means the Kufr of being ungrateful, then he becomes of those Faasiqoon, those who deny giving thanks to Allaah, the Most High, for saving them from their Fitnah and denies all the others favours that have been given to from before. [See: Tafseer al-Qurtubee 12/279]

Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer [May Allaah have Mercy on him] says:

But whoever disbelieves after that - then those are the defiantly disobedient.” Means after the relief of Allaah, the Most High, has come, whoever leaves off Obeying Him then he is truly a disobedient person and he has surely fallen into a great sin. The Companions [May Allaah be Pleased with them all] after receiving relief, they would be the most steadfast of people in carrying out the Commands of Allaah, the Exalted and Glorified. So their obedience led for the help of Allaah to come and the lands from the east and the west were opened for them, the support they received was indeed something major. Once they had this relief, they sought to seek the betterment for the people and for the lands that Islaam had spread in. However, this sincerity decreased after the age of the Companions thus after their generations the peoples status and honoured became degraded.

[Tafseer Ibn Katheer 6/80]
