Tafseer of the Aayah: For Them There is Security and They are The Guided

It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided.” [al-An’aam 6:82]

Ibn Jareer At-Tabaree [May Allaah have Mercy on him] narrated that Anas bin Maalik [May Allaah be Pleased with him] said about this Aayah:

Those who will have protection are those who have Eemaan and Ikhlaas for Allaah Alone. End quote.

Ibn Katheer [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said in his Tafseer:

Meaning, those who make worship for Allaah Alone, do not practice Shirk in the slightest, then they will be protected on the Day of Judgement. They are the guided ones in the Dunyaa and the Aakhirah. End quote.

Zayd bin Aslam [May Allaah be Pleased with him] and Ibn Ishaaq [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said about this Aayah:

This is a favour from Allaah upon Ibraheem [May Allaah be Pleased with him]. Tawheed is what divided him and his very own people, those who rejected him. End quote.

Ibn Mas’ood [May Allaah be Pleased with him] said about this Aayah:

When this Aayah was revealed, the Companions become overwhelmed with worry. They asked themselves, “Who does not oppress himself?” So they asked the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be Upon him] worriedly and he replied, “Have you not here the statement of Luqmaan:

Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great Zulm (wrong) indeed?” [Luqmaan 31:13]  End quote.

‘Umar bin al-Khattab [May Allaah be Pleased with him] said, “The one who will be protected from all forms of punishment are those who abstain from sinning.”

Hasan al-Basree and al-Kalbee [May Allaah have Mercy on them] both said, “Those who are protected in the hereafter and they are those who are guided in the Dunyaa.”

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [May Allaah have Mercy on him] said:

Those who are filled with fear are those who are afraid of falling into the form of oppression mentioned here, which is Shirk. Their fear is of losing the protection that the people of Tawheed will have, thus ending up misguided and unprotected. This state of negligence is not the state of anyone except those who oppresses themselves.

Therefore the Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be Upon him] explained to the Companions [May Allaah be Pleased with them all] that the oppression mentioned in the Book of Allaah refers to Shirk, and as a consequence, those who oppress themselves with Shirk will not be guided unless they protect themselves via Tawheed. Resulting in them being from those who are guided.

Then We gave the Book the Qur'an) for inheritance to such of Our slaves whom We chose (the followers of Muhammad  ). Then of them are some who wrong their ownselves, and of them are some who follow a middle course, and of them are some who are, by Allah's Leave, foremost in good deeds. That (inheritance of the Qur'an), that is indeed a great grace.” [Faatir 35:32]

This Aayah shows that even if one was sinful and he oppressed himself by sinning, without repenting, then he will still have this protection via the virtue of Tawheed (as he did not fall into any form of Shirk).

So it is clear; if a believer (who has Tawheed) dies then he will enter Jannah even if he commits all the sins in the world. This means that it is absolutely imperative and a condition for one to enter Jannah and for one to be guided to the straight path, the one that has no reward except Jannah, that they have and die upon Tawheed.
