Points taken from the talk ‘How to Honour the
Sunnah’

The Sunnah is needed to understand the religion,
it explains the Quraan and it explains the Sunnah. For example, Allaah, the
Most High, says:
“And perform As-Salat
(Iqamat-as-Salat),” [al-Baqarah 2:43]
The question is, how do we pray? The answer is;
we must return to the Sunnah for us to receive instruction.
The Prophet [Peace and Blessings of Allaah be
Upon him] said, “Pray as you have seen me praying
[Narrated by al-Bukhaari (602)]”
Allah, the Most High, also explains this point
in His Statement:
“And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the
reminder and the advice (the Qur'an), that you may explain clearly to men what
is sent down to them, and that they may give thought.” [an-Nahl 16:44]
Therefore, the Sunnah explains ' what is sent down to them, and that they may give
thought '.
Meaning, you will never understand, be
guided and follow the Quraan except via
the knowing the Sunnah.
