-The Prophet was born on a Monday on
the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awal on the year of which Abraha’s army was
destroyed. This was known as the Year of the Elephants.
Commentary
-Shaykh ‘Abdur-Razzaaq said (like
Al-Haakim before him) that the Prophet was born on a Monday, was made a prophet
on a Monday, made Hijrah on a Monday, arrived to al-Madeenah on a Monday and
died on a Monday.
-Nobody knows the actual date of his
birth. Shaykh al-Albaani favoured that he was born on the 8th of
Rabi al-Awal because of the narration of Jubayr bin Mut’im in al-Muwatta but
the majority say it was the 12th.
-He was born in Makkah – the best of
prophets born in the best of cities.
