Ibn ‘Abbaas [may Allaah be Pleased with him] said, “Truly, when the believer
draws closer to death, the Angel of Death approaches him and greets him with
the greeting of ‘Salaam’ and gives him the glad tidings of Jannah before he
takes his soul.”
[Tafseer at-Tabaree 13/664]
Ibn al-Qayyim [may Allaah have Mercy on him] said:
Some people have narrated
that when they have been besides the death bed of a person, they have heard the
dying person say, “Ahlan wa Sahlan (a welcoming phrase in Arabic)” or “Welcome”
and the likes.
Our Shaykh has even told us
of an incident that there was a group besides the death bed of a person and
they heard the dying person say, “Wa ‘Alaykum Salaam! Come! Sit down!” and then
facing another direction repeating the same thing.
